Publisher 's Note

This book is a collection of editorial articles of Shri K. D. Sethna (Amal Kiran) written for the fortnightly Mother India during the years 1949 to 1952. These editorials are of immense value because all of them upto November 1950 were read out to Sri Aurobindo and approved by him. The rest were read out to the Mother and approved by her. We believe that the issues and themes dealt with in these articles are as important and pressing today, as when they were written over fifty years ago .

Some of the articles have been retouched at a few places by Amal Kiran. They have also been regrouped according to the themes. Some have also been included in the companion volume, India and the World Scene, which deals primarily with the political issues facing India and the world during 1949-1951.

The preface is the same as it appeared in the first edition of the book in 1953, except that it has been slightly abridged. There is also an article on Mother India, written by Amal Kiran for the 25th anniversary of the journal, which too has been edited and abridged. It gives the interesting and inspiring story of Mother India 's birth and growth.
